Review: Some Girls Bite

Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill
April 7th 2009 by NAL Trade
Paperback, 341 pages

Summary (Goodreads):
First in a brand new series about a Chicago graduate student’s introduction into a society of vampires.

Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn’t exactly glamorous, but it was Merit’s. She was doing fine until a rogue vampire attacked her. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker—and this one decided the best way to save her life was to make her the walking undead.

Turns out her savior was the master vampire of Cadogan House. Now she’s traded sweating over her thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan “Lord o’ the Manor” Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed, four-hundred- year-old vampire, he has centuries’ worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects her gratitude— and servitude. But an inconvenient sunlight allergy and Ethan’s attitude are the least of her concerns. Someone’s still out to get her. Her initiation into Chicago’s nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war—and there will be blood.

Plot: 5
Setting: 5
Writing: 5
Originality: 5
Characters: 5
Passion: 4 (it is more Urban Fiction than PNR)
Overall: 29/30

Cover Bonus: 3.5
Title Bonus: 4.5 (love the title)

I LOVED this book. The writing was amazing and the characters were hilarious!! It had everything you want in a GREAT vampire tale. I was very surprised how easy it was to read being she is a new author and this is the first in the series. I loved the world she created because it has just enough classic Vampire myth mixed with her own unique twists. The cover was cool compared to some I have seen lately but the title I LOVED!! I have already started the next one..lol

Rachel Vincent has a new Teen/young adult series coming out August 1st called Soul Screamers and it sounds really cool.

She doesn't see dead people, but…

She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next…

You can download the prequel to it called My Soul to Lose here.

The Library Lizard Lounge is having a contest for a signed copy of My Soul to Take here. Go check it out.

Angels' Blood Review

Plot: 10/10
Originality: 10/10
Characters: 9.5/10
Writing: 8.5/10
Romance/Passion: 8/10
Cover(bonus): 4/5
Score: 46/50 +4= 50

Plot:
The story started a little slow but got a lot stronger as it went along. Even though most of the action was toward the end of the book I was still glued to the pages wanting to hear more about the characters. I LOVED the ending and totally did not see it coming. This story line has so much potential and I can't wait to see which way she takes it.

Originality:
This story line was very different than what I have read before. I was so intrigued by stories behind the Angels and the Guild Hunters. I just love the world that Nalini has created and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us.

Characters:
The characters in this book where great. Elena was strong and stubborn. But she was sometimes too stubborn and I wanted to smack some sense into her. Raphael was a dark, sensual, kick-butt hero but was also kind hearted deep down. Not to mention he was hotness with wings..lol.

Writing:
This was my first Nalini Singh's book but I was overall happy with the writing. Sometimes I got frustrated with the little hints she inserted about their past that would through me off. I would have loved a little more from the love scenes but they were still steamy.

Cover:
The cover was what made me pick up this book. The platinum blond with the innocent looking face caught my attention and I loved how she was looking up into the sky.

Look at all my goodies!!

I checked my mail yesterday and I was sooooo excited to see 3 packages with books in them.In one box was my signed copy of "A Rush of Wings" by Adrian Phoenix that I won from her yahoo group. The next was my copy of "In the Blood" also by Adrian Phoenix that I bought. The last one was a signed ARC of "Bad to the Bone" by Jeri Smith-Ready that I won in her spread the word contest along with a $50 GC to the book store of my choice. You talk about excited. Night Embrace Review

Name: Night Embrace (Dark-Hunter, #4)

Date: July 13th 2006 by St. Martin's Paperbacks
Author: Sherrilyn Kenyon
Pages: 408 pages

Dear Reader,

Life is great for me. I have my chicory coffee, my warm beignets, and my best friend on the cell phone. Once the sun goes down, I am the baddest thing prowling the night: I command the elements, and I know no fear. For centuries, I've protected the innocent and watched over the mankind, making sure they are safe in a world where nothing is ever certain. All I want in return is a hot babe in a red dress, who wants nothing more from me then one night.

Instead, I get a runaway Mardi Gras float that tries to turn me into roadkill and a beautiful woman who saves my life but can't remember where she put my pants. Flamboyant and extravagant, Sunshine Runningwolf should be the perfect woman for me. She wants nothing past tonight, no ties, no long-term commitments.

But every time I look at her, I start yearning for dreams that I buried centuries ago. With her unconventional ways and ability to baffle me, Sunshine is the one person I find myself needing. But for me to love her would mean her death. I am cursed never to know peace or happiness-not so long as my enemy waits in the night to destroy us both.

Talon of the Morriganes

Plot: 4.5/5
Character: 5/5 (I loved the supporting characters in this book. Nick, Vane & Fang made me laugh my butt off)

A Rush of Wings by Adrian Pheonix

Name:
A Rush of Wings (The Maker's Song, book 1)
Date: January 8th 2008
Author: Adrian Pheonix
Pages:416 pages

HIS NAME IS DANTE.

Dark. Talented. Beautiful. Star of the rock band Inferno. Rumored owner of the hot New Orleans nightspot Club Hell. Born of the Blood, then broken by an evil beyond imagination.

HIS PAST IS A MYSTERY.
F.B.I. Special Agent Heather Wallace has been tracking a sadistic serial murderer known as the Cross Country Killer, and the trail has led her to New Orleans, Club Hell, and Dante. But the dangerously attractive musician not only resists her investigation, he claims to be "nightkind": in other words, a vampire. Digging into his past for answers reveals little. A juvenile record a mile long. No social security number. No known birth date. In and out of foster homes for most of his life before being taken in by a man named Lucien DeNoir, who appears to guard mysteries of his own.

HIS FUTURE IS CHAOS.
What Heather does know about Dante is that something links him to the killer -- and she's pretty sure that link makes him the CCK's next target. Heather must unravel the truth about this sensual, complicated, vulnerable young man -- who, she begins to believe, may indeed be a vampire -- in order to finally bring a killer to justice. But Dante's past holds a shocking, dangerous secret, and once it is revealed not even Heather will be able to protect him from his destiny....

Plot: 5/5
Character: 5/5
Writing Style: 4.5/5 (sometimes I got lost by the vagueness and I was a little confused by the language)
Romance Factor: 4/5 (it is urban fantasy but still enough romance)
Originality: 5/5 (this is definitely not your everyday vampire book)
Book Cover: 3/5 (I would have loved to see a man on the cover)

Overall Rating: 4.9/5 (it is definitely a keeper, loved it)
